Guten-Tag! Grüße von Deutschland! (Greetings from Germany)
Here I am, after 24 hours of travel I have made it to Sigimirignen. I have a lot to blog about as I have not done one in quite some time and quite a lot has happened! So on Thursday we had the team event that consisted of a 250 meter swim, 6.7km bike and a 1.6 km run. I was really excited for this event as we were doing it with the auzzies, which was really awesome! It meant we were able to train with them in the days leading up to the race. As well as being super excited to compete with them I was a little nervous, as I knew the auzzie coach expected quite a lot. On the day of the race I was not nervous at all! Which was great. I had a fun nights sleep and I was ready to rock! I had discussed with the auzzie coach to have change in warm up as it was such a short, hard and very very fast race. The shorter the race, the longer the warm up. Ellie Salthouse was the first girl, then Michael Gosman both from Australia. Ellie set us up for the race nicely but we were a little behind the leaders. Michael moved up into 3rd position equal with Europe and then it was my turn. By this time I new that all I had to do was ride as hard as I could, and that’s what I did. I took 40 seconds out of the 50-second lead that America’s team had but was unable to drop the European girl who stuck to my wheel like glue! I tried as hard as I could for the European competitor to run away from me as I new she was a faster runner. I tagged Aaron and he set us off, it came done to a sprint finish between Oceania and Europe. Unfortunately we got 2nd place but it was still an amazing effort from everyone in the team! We gave it everything and that was the result. I was so so so happy and excited! My very first Olympic medal! To celebrate the New Zealand team hit the youth Olympic dance club! Yes, such a thing exists and it is awesome! We boogied the night away (11o'clock) and then the next day flew to Germany! Where I am now. I only just arrived not too long ago. So far I have not seen too much besides the hour bike ride that I went on. But from what I have seen I LOVE! It is so beautiful. It is everything I imagined Europe to be and more! I will post up some pictures because words cannot describe this beauty! And another thing the food is AMAZING! Everything is so fresh. I tried fresh cranberries for the very first time today and they were delicious! I am missing my mum, brother and sister and wish I could share it with them but besides that everything is fantastic. I will try being more regular with the blogs. I am slack, I know.
Peace out!
Welcome to Germany, Maddie, and CONGRATS again & again for yor amazing achievement. I have been following everything as closely as I could.
ReplyDeleteToo bad we are so far from each other (800 km or something like that - from Siegmaringen to Hamburg). Still - enjoy everything and have a great time!
